About Village Vet Centre

The rich history of Village Vet Centre across Flintshire and Cheshire

Our history

Village Vets was opened in 2002 at the branch practice in Mancot by Andy Peffers and James Bigglestone, two vets who had been working locally. Andy and James both qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1995 and decided that it was time to start their own practice together. Their aim was to create a friendly veterinary practice with the high standards and expertise one would expect from a large city hospital. Andy divided his time between small animal and equine work, whilst James concentrated on small animal medicine and surgery.

Initially just the two vets and a handful of support staff, the practice went from strength to strength and in 2007, Village Vets opened the Buckley hospital. The Buckley (Liverpool Road) branch is now the central hub of the practice with appointments available all day and surgical operations occurring on this site. The original Mancot branch remains open and continues to serve the local community as diligently as ever.

In 2008, Meadowbank Veterinary Surgery in Northop was added to the family, forming a large multi-branch veterinary service that has an excellent reputation across North Wales.

In 2014, another branch was added to our fold – over the border in England. Village Vets Childer Thornton opened in November 2014 and offers routine consultations, operations and diagnostic services. There has been a veterinary practice at that site for over a century and Village Vets is proud to have opened its doors once more.

Who we are now

Village Vets now employs over 30 staff. We are extremely proud of our nursing team, which is comprised of a large number of qualified nurses who take their own clinics, including weight clinics, diabetic clinics, puppy parties and healthy pet checks.

Our veterinary team is very diverse and includes vets with special interests in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, ultrasonography and behaviour. Our vets have excellent working relationships with local referral practices and regularly undertake further training courses to enhance their knowledge.

The Buckley practice is credited with hospital status and has state-of-the-art facilities, including three surgical suites, digital x-ray and endoscopy equipment and an ultrasound machine that is identical to that used in human hospitals. There are separate cat and dog kennels, isolation kennels for infectious patients and an in-house laboratory where blood and other samples can be processed the same day.

We are open at the Buckley branch for consultation 7 days a week on an appointment basis, and offer 24-hour on-site nursing.

Village Vets has grown into a large, successful practice with high standards of care and excellent facilities. However, at our heart we are still a small, friendly village practice where clients are our friends and nothing is more important than the health and welfare of our patients.
